The NJC employers' side was due to meet on 21 January to consider the NJC joint unions' pay claim for 2020. We were expecting the employers to make us an offer.
However after the meeting we received the following message from the employers' side secretariat:
As you know the National Employers met today. It has been agreed that lead members will meet with national union representatives at a meeting of the NJC Executive on 5 February. A further update will follow that meeting."
Following discussions with the other unions and liaising with UNISON's NJC Chair we have agreed the following response:
The unions are astounded to hear that the local government employers – who met on 21 January – still have not made the local government workforce a pay offer. The unions were expecting that one would be made in response to the pay claim submitted back in July 2019.

While the local government employers decide their response to our pay claim it is vital that we keep up the pressure.
The Branch has sent a motion to all NCC councillors asking them to support our claim and we would like members to get involved by emailing their local councillor.
UNISON has produced a tool to help members do this – all you need to do is click the link below and type in your details. The website will produce a draft email to your local councillor explaining the pay campaign and asking for their support. You will be able to amend or personalise the email before sending.
YOU WILL NEED TO INCLUDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS AND IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU GIVE YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL AND NOT A WORK EMAIL ADDRESS.

Our members have been suffering from pay freezes for a number of years and although they got a pay rise this year and last, their wages have not caught up and many will still not have enough money to buy food and pay their bills, let alone go on holiday or save for their retirement.
Our national pay claim for 2020 is ambitious but necessary. We all need to get behind it to make it successful. Please click on the links below for information about the pay claim and also check this website for regular updates.
