UNISON’s National Executive Council runs our union and determines the kind of union we are and can become. It is made up of 68 UNISON members just like you! NEC elections this year are hugely important to determine whether UNISON succeeds and wins for you at work and on pay.

How the election works
Voting will be from 21 April to 21 May. Lookout for your ballot paper which will be posted to your home address.

Members can vote in all the regional seats and all the national Black and disabled member seats, regardless of your own ethnicity or whether you consider yourself disabled or not.

Members will only be able to vote for the service group candidates for the service group you are a member of e.g. Local government only. And members only get a vote in the Young Member seats if you are 30 years old or under.

Members are strongly encouraged to use all the votes available to them.

Ballot Helpline
If individual members have not received a paper by 30 April 2025, then they should contact the ballot helpline operated by UNISONdirect, on the following telephone number: 0800 0857 857.
Lines are open from 7am to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm Saturday. Members with hearing difficulties can use textphone 0800 0 967 968.

Members should endeavour to have their membership number to hand when calling.

The latest point at which members can request a ballot paper is 12 noon on 14 May 2025.

Close of ballot and results
The deadline for receipt of ballot papers by the Independent Scrutineer is 5pm on 21 May 2025.

The result will be available on 11 June 2025 and the successful candidates will take office at the close of National Delegate Conference 2025.

Who the branch is backing
The NEC elections give you an opportunity to elect a leadership that will ensure UNISON uses its full weight in the interests of members. Branches need a fair share of the union’s resources and need to know we have the backing of the leadership when we have to take action in defence of pay, jobs or services.
