UNISON has submitted a pay claim for council and school staff in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We are asking for a wage increase of £3,000 on all pay points. This would be pro rata’d for part time and term time only staff.

In addition, the claim asks for:

  • A clear plan to reach a minimum pay rate of £15 an hour
  • One extra day of annual leave for all staff
  • A reduction in the working week by two hours, with no loss of pay
  • The ability for school staff to take (at least) one day of their annual leave during term time, with no loss of pay

Workers like you deliver vital services in our communities, yet your pay has lost 25% of its value since 2010. At a time when the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite and workers are leaving for less stressful and better paid work, a decent pay offer is essential to save our services.

Local councillors can can voice their support for this pay rise, raising the issue directly with local government employers and put pressure on them to make a decent pay offer.

Demand more funding for local councils
