Meeting aimed at younger people (others also very welcome!)
It has been agreed to organise another separate meeting about implementing recommendations from the NTU students’ report where we can get more young people attending for their input/ lead.
- This will now be held THIS Sun 31st August at 4pm – 5.30pm in the centre of Nottingham, in premises near Market Square (please email info@nottmsutr.co.uk if you are interested – it will also be accessible on zoom)
THIS Sat 30th August 11.30am – note earlier time
We need to oppose the far right outside Best Western Hotel in Long Eaton again – (See below for details & more to follow).
The Stand Up To Racism groups and others had a good turnout of 50 people on Saturday, but unfortunately those far right local people persisted in staying all afternoon. We believe we need to have a bigger turnout this Saturday to show we are committed to standing up for the local asylum seekers.
This hotel has been housing asylum seekers since the autumn of 2022, with few problems created by the residents, but a number of them have been attacked and abused and indeed one 16 year old Afghan asylum seeker from the Novotel hotel next door was run over on the M1 ‘upset’ after being ruled an adult . There have been no criminal allegations of sexual abuses against the residents, and many have passed through the hotel since opening and many have taken part in community activities to the benefit of local residents.
We suggest if possible coming by car & parking along Bostocks Lane on the opposite side from the hotel that leads into Park La (not on the main Rd part of Bostocks Lane).
Come & oppose the far right getting a toe hold around the hotel.

We have also been invited to join a panel for a set of talks for the Knowledge Garden at this year’s Festival.
The panel’s working name is “Inclusive Climate Action: How our experiences and background shape the way we’re affected by and respond to climate change.” The organisers are hoping to explore how identity and inequality influence both how we’re impacted by climate change and the ways we take action.
Other speakers lined up are from LGBTQIA+ groups, neurodiverse and disability-led initiatives, and community projects that support refugees and sex workers. They want to include someone from SUTR to speak about climate through the lens of racial justice and ethnicity.
If you are interested in getting involved with this do email back. Many thanks
