Over the last 10 years, there has been an average shortfall in central government funding to Nottingham City Council of £97 million each year. For this coming financial year 2024/2025, Nottingham City Council are preparing to make £50m of cuts to jobs and services. This will have a devastating impact on services that citizens in Nottingham need and use every day.

The proposals recommend reducing highway maintenance, employment and skills support, vital transport for families and those with health issues, opportunities for sports in public places, green space and public realm maintenance, and cuts to putting community facing arts organisations.

On top of the planned axing of almost one in every 10 jobs, the authority is proposing to review its libraries service, close residential care homes and youth services, scale back community protection and stop or reduce a number of bus services.

UNISON is calling on Nottingham City Council to immediately launch a campaign to secure additional government funding in order to avoid any further cuts to jobs and services.
