NJC pay claim for 2026/27 has been submitted

Yesterday UNISON submitted a pay claim for local government staff in England, Cymru and Northern Ireland. Our key demand is for an increase of at least £3,000 or 10% (whichever is greater) on every pay point – this is based on a one-year settlement. Plus, a minimum pay rate of £15 an hour for all staff.

In addition, the claim asks for:
– A two-hour reduction in the working week
– An increase of one day annual leave
– The ability of all school support staff to take a day of paid leave during term time

Timetable

The employers will consult on our claim during December and January. We are urging them to respond as soon as possible and definitely by February, as well as taking part in meaningful pay talks.

In the meantime, we must continue to put pressure on the government to increase funding in the sector, so that the employers can come back with a fair pay offer.
